young person in counseling with therapist as part of intensive outpatient treatment for teensWhen an adolescent or teen struggles with mental health concerns, it affects the whole family. The first step in any treatment process is formally diagnosing a specific condition, such as depression or anxiety. After a diagnosis, a teen outpatient program can provide support, healing, and hope for the future.

If your adolescent struggles with mental health issues and needs a higher level of care, consider enrolling them in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for teens. An IOP for teens can help adolescents manage their mental health and enjoy more fulfilling lives. Beyond Healthcare Fairlawn’s teen IOP supports participants multiple times a week after school.

Ohio Mental Health Services for Adolescents and Teens

We help individuals between 11 and 17 manage their mental health. Our counselors and clinicians assist and support families who wish to help a teen or adolescent improve their mental health.

Our clients undergo a thorough examination that spots difficulties and identifies strengths-based solutions that the whole family may use. Treatment is always individualized and might include a variety of elements, including:

  • Psychiatry
  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Experiential therapy
  • Additional specialized services as needed

About Our Intensive Outpatient Program

Our teen IOP runs after school three days per week for three hours per session. In intensive outpatient treatment for teens, we group eight to twelve teenagers by age. IOP programming, which includes additional mental health support, therapy sessions as needed, and medication management, can assist your teenager in managing their mental health while balancing social relationships, family duties, school, and other responsibilities.

IOP treatment duration usually lasts six to eight weeks, though this could differ based on your adolescent’s specific progress. Despite often being a lower level of care compared to partial hospitalization programs, we will continually monitor your teenager’s progress toward their objectives and provide updates. Parents may also choose their teens to participate in individual therapy and medication management. Families may also engage in family therapy sessions during the IOP to enhance communication and address day-to-day challenges.

Virtual Options for your schedule

Finding time to get your adolescent or teen to therapy can be challenging, especially when schoolwork and extracurricular activities become busy.

We offer virtual services that fit your schedule so your family can continue to heal. Our virtual IOP sessions can help your teen or adolescent continue to make progress toward a healthier future through:

  • Virtual assessments – Initial diagnostic and routine progress assessments can be done remotely in our secure virtual spaces.
  • One-on-one counseling – Scheduled individual therapy sessions can be done virtually so adolescents and parents can work through issues like trauma or difficult symptoms.
  • Group counseling – Remote group therapy provides access to the same collaborative, supportive benefits in-person group therapy offers.

If your family has a busy schedule, travels frequently, or needs to spend time out of the area, our virtual IOP sessions can help your teen stay on track.

Is There a Difference Between Day Treatment and Intensive Outpatient Programs?

The terms “day treatment” and “intensive outpatient program” are sometimes interchangeable, and there is no difference between the two at Beyond Healthcare Fairlawn. Your teen will learn to control their emotions and increase self-esteem in our IOP. Our therapists can also help your teen with various issues after school.

The intensive outpatient program for teens at Beyond Healthcare helps treat a range of mental health conditions, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Mood disorders
  • ADHD
  • Addictions and co-occurring disorders
  • Physical, sexual, or emotional trauma
  • Family transitions such as moving or divorce
  • Grief and loss
  • LGBTQ+ challenges and issues
  • Relationship problems

If your teen struggles with moderate mental health symptoms but does not self-harm or have suicidal tendencies, an IOP may be a good fit. In a teen IOP, patients receive vital mental health support a few times per week while still being able to live their normal life.
